Menston Methodist Tennis Club has one tennis court which is situated to the rear of the Church. Access is to the left of the Church, through the garden at the side of Cornerstone.
Methodists have been playing tennis in Menston since 4 May 1932 when Menston Methodist Tennis Club was inaugurated. Play initially took place on Mr Outterside’s court at Bradford Road. In 1933 the Club moved to Mr Haley’s court in the Homestead Estate but moved back to Mr Outterside’s court in 1934 where it remained until the new court behind the Church was built in 1937 at a cost of £164. The Club won its first match on 15 July 1936 when it defeated Harrogate Road Methodist by 5 sets to 4.
Today, there are approximately 13 senior members with additional family memberships and juniors. Social play takes place from 10am on Monday mornings throughout the year. Members also play at other times and at the weekend. Junior members receive coaching on a Monday evening during the summer term.
Annual tournaments used to be held during the summer which culminated in the Finals weekend at the beginning of September. American Tournaments also used to be held on some of the Bank Holiday Mondays. These have now not taken place for a number of years.
Membership is £30 per year for adults and £15 per years for students and juniors. Please feel free to come along and meet us on a Monday morning or for more information please contact 01943 870871.
Table Tennis is also available in the main hall on a Monday morning from 10am. This is also available for non-tennis members on payment of a social/table tennis membership subscription.
We are delighed that in addition to a new Tennis Hut in 2017, we have been able to replace the outside netting in 2018 to make the court more secure and a safer environment for playing tennis.
